About this puzzle
Big, bold letters and fewer, longer words: an easier-on-the-eyes david and goliath word search. A shepherd boy, a sling and five smooth stones from the brook. This David and Goliath word search retells 1 Samuel 17 in twenty words, from the valley of Elah to the giant’s helmet and spear. A favorite for Sunday school lessons about courage.
The large print edition uses an 11×11 grid that fills a letter-size page, and words only run across, down or diagonally down.
All 20 words in this theme: David, Goliath, Sling, Stones, Shepherd, Sheep, Philistine, Israel, Saul, Helmet, Sword, Spear, Shield, Valley, Elah, Brook, Giant, Jesse, Bethlehem, Harp.
Talk about it
Questions to share while solving, for activity groups, memory care or a visit with family:
- Who taught you this story first: a parent, a teacher or a preacher?
- Have you ever had to face something that felt like a giant?
- Did you play with a slingshot as a child?
- David played the harp. Do you play an instrument, or wish you did?
- Which psalm of David do you know best?
Activity tip: Read 1 Samuel 17:40 aloud, then let each person share a time someone small or young surprised them with courage. It is a warm, easy conversation for any group.
Questions
How big are the letters?
The grid fills most of a letter-size page, with letters about one and a half times the size of a regular (Medium) word search, and the word list is printed in large type too.
Are these suitable for memory care or activity groups?
Yes. Words only run left to right, top to bottom or diagonally down, so the puzzles are relaxing rather than tricky. Print as many copies as your group needs.
Is there a harder version?
Every theme also has a regular print edition with Easy, Medium and Hard levels.
