About this puzzle

Big, bold letters and fewer, longer words: an easier-on-the-eyes april word search. April showers bring May flowers. This April word search starts with a gentle April Fools’ prank and moves on to umbrellas, tulips and butterflies, Earth Day on April 22 and Arbor Day on the last Friday, when people plant trees. Baseball season is under way, it is Jazz Appreciation Month and a month for poetry, and the birthstone is the diamond, with the daisy as the birth flower.

The large print edition uses an 11×11 grid that fills a letter-size page, and words only run across, down or diagonally down.

All 20 words in this theme: Umbrella, Showers, Rainboots, Tulip, Daisy, Blossom, Butterfly, Nest, Baseball, Prank, Jokes, Trees, Earth, Recycle, Diamond, Poetry, Jazz, Taurus, Planting, Seedling.

Talk about it

Questions to share while solving, for activity groups, memory care or a visit with family:

  • What is the best April Fools’ joke ever played on you?
  • Did you plant a tree or a garden when you were young?
  • Which spring flower do you love most?
  • Did you have a favorite baseball team or player?
  • What song or poem do you still know by heart?

Activity tip: For Earth Day, run a quick round where each finished puzzle earns a seed packet or a small potted seedling to take home or to plant together outside.

Questions

How big are the letters?

The grid fills most of a letter-size page, with letters about one and a half times the size of a regular (Medium) word search, and the word list is printed in large type too.

Are these suitable for memory care or activity groups?

Yes. Words only run left to right, top to bottom or diagonally down, so the puzzles are relaxing rather than tricky. Print as many copies as your group needs.

Is there a harder version?

Every theme also has a regular print edition with Easy, Medium and Hard levels.
