About this puzzle
Big, bold letters and fewer, longer words: an easier-on-the-eyes geometry word search. Shapes, angles and measurements. Triangles, circles, squares and hexagons, solid figures like the cube, sphere, cylinder, cone and pyramid, and the terms that describe them: radius, diameter, vertex, perimeter, area, volume, parallel and symmetry. A geometry word search for elementary and middle school math.
The large print edition uses an 11×11 grid that fills a letter-size page, and words only run across, down or diagonally down.
All 20 words in this theme: Triangle, Circle, Square, Polygon, Radius, Diameter, Vertex, Parallel, Perimeter, Area, Volume, Angle, Cube, Sphere, Cylinder, Pyramid, Rectangle, Hexagon, Symmetry, Cone.
Talk about it
Questions to share while solving, for activity groups, memory care or a visit with family:
- Which shapes can you see around the room right now?
- Did you ever sew a quilt or tile a floor with a pattern?
- Did you use a compass and protractor in school?
- What is the most beautiful building you have seen?
- Do you like puzzles with shapes, like jigsaws or tangrams?
Activity tip: Hunt for shapes in the room together after solving: a round clock, a square window, a rectangular table. It turns the vocabulary into something people can point to.
Questions
How big are the letters?
The grid fills most of a letter-size page, with letters about one and a half times the size of a regular (Medium) word search, and the word list is printed in large type too.
Are these suitable for memory care or activity groups?
Yes. Words only run left to right, top to bottom or diagonally down, so the puzzles are relaxing rather than tricky. Print as many copies as your group needs.
Is there a harder version?
Every theme also has a regular print edition with Easy, Medium and Hard levels.
