Medium Logic Grid Puzzles

Four people, two things to match and six to eight clues. Medium logic grids add “either… or…” clues and clues that link two things without naming a person, so you will need to combine what you know from different parts of the grid.

The step that makes it medium

In a medium puzzle some clues never mention a person. “The person who baked the cherry pie won the red ribbon” fills the lower block, which links pies to ribbons. When you later learn who baked the cherry pie, that person also gets the red ribbon. Carrying facts across the blocks like this is the key skill in logic grids, and it is what turns a list of clues into an answer.

“Either… or…” clues help too: if Sam is going to either Hawaii or Maine, every other place in his row gets an X straight away.

For classrooms and puzzle groups

Medium puzzles suit middle school, high school and adult puzzle groups. Hand out one page per pair of students and ask them to explain each mark to each other; talking through the reasoning is the best practice. The eight puzzles in the PDF all use different themes, from a pie contest to summer trips.

Questions

How long does a medium logic puzzle take?

Usually 10 to 20 minutes. The first one may take longer while you get used to the grid.

What does the lower block of the grid do?

It matches the two non-person categories with each other, such as pies and ribbons. Clues that do not name a person are marked there.
