About this puzzle

Big, bold letters and fewer, longer words: an easier-on-the-eyes math word search. The words of math class: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, fractions, decimals and percents, sum, product and equation, plus digit, estimate, average, ratio and pattern. Find them all in a math word search that works as vocabulary practice from second grade up, or a calm five-minute activity after a test.

The large print edition uses an 11×11 grid that fills a letter-size page, and words only run across, down or diagonally down.

All 20 words in this theme: Addition, Subtract, Multiply, Divide, Fraction, Decimal, Percent, Equation, Number, Sum, Product, Digit, Estimate, Average, Ratio, Pattern, Measure, Graph, Zero, Remainder.

Talk about it

Questions to share while solving, for activity groups, memory care or a visit with family:

  • Were you good at mental arithmetic in school?
  • Did you learn your times tables by heart? Which one was hardest?
  • Did you ever use a slide rule or an abacus?
  • How do you use math in everyday life, like cooking or shopping?
  • Who in your family was the best at keeping track of money?

Activity tip: Follow the puzzle with a quick round of mental math, such as doubling numbers or adding up a pretend grocery bill. Keep it light and let people help each other.

Questions

How big are the letters?

The grid fills most of a letter-size page, with letters about one and a half times the size of a regular (Medium) word search, and the word list is printed in large type too.

Are these suitable for memory care or activity groups?

Yes. Words only run left to right, top to bottom or diagonally down, so the puzzles are relaxing rather than tricky. Print as many copies as your group needs.

Is there a harder version?

Every theme also has a regular print edition with Easy, Medium and Hard levels.
