The Thanksgiving activity pack

One PDF for Thanksgiving week: a large print word search for Monday, a large print crossword for Tuesday, 20 trivia questions for Wednesday, a large print word scramble for Thursday and a coloring page of a pile of pumpkins for Friday. The cover lists the plan and a few questions to talk about, and the answers are at the back. The group copy has the same pages and page numbers without the answers, so you can hand it out.

Large print Thanksgiving puzzles

Thanksgiving games for a group

Bingo is the easiest game to run for a big room. Every Thanksgiving bingo card is different, the large print PDF has one card to a page, and the caller’s list shows what has already been called. For a smaller table, play Thanksgiving trivia on a TV or tablet, one question at a time with big answer buttons, or read the word scramble aloud and let people call out the answer.

Thanksgiving coloring pages

Coloring suits anyone who would rather not write. The easy pages have thick lines and big spaces, and every picture can also be colored on a tablet, one tap per space.

For family visits

When the grandchildren come, print the regular Thanksgiving word search, which has Easy, Medium and Hard levels, or the Thanksgiving crossword, so everyone at the table gets a puzzle at their own level. The word scramble also comes without a word bank, which keeps teenagers and adults busy while the turkey rests.

A one-hour Thanksgiving program

  1. Welcome, 10 minutes. Go around the table with one question: what dish did your family serve that nobody else seemed to make?
  2. Word search or crossword, 15 minutes. Hand out the large print word search; anyone who finishes early can move on to the crossword.
  3. Bingo, 20 minutes. Two or three rounds of Thanksgiving bingo, with small prizes for each winner.
  4. Trivia, 10 minutes. Read five questions aloud and let each table agree on an answer before you reveal it.
  5. A thankful round, 5 minutes. Each person names one thing they are grateful for this year.

Before you print

  • Print a few days early. Thanksgiving week is busy, and the office printer always seems to need toner on the wrong day.
  • Keep one copy of each answer key for every table helper, so nobody has to wait for the activity leader.
  • Black and white is fine for every puzzle; only the coloring pages need crayons, colored pencils or markers.
  • Print at actual size (100%) so the large print stays large. On A4 paper, choose “fit to page”.

Questions

Are these Thanksgiving activities free?

Yes. Every puzzle, game and coloring page here is free to print and copy for your residents, members or family. There is no sign-up and no email to give.

Which activity is easiest?

The large print word search: 12 words in big letters that never run backwards. Next comes the large print crossword with its word bank, which turns the clues into a matching game.

Do the puzzles come with answers?

Yes. Every word search, crossword, word scramble and trivia PDF has its answers on the last page, and the activity pack keeps all the answers together at the back.

Can I use them with a memory care group?

Many groups do. Choose the large print word search, the crossword with a word bank or a coloring page, and work together on one shared copy, reading each word aloud.
