About this puzzle

Big, bold letters and fewer, longer words: an easier-on-the-eyes december word search. The year ends with lights and celebrations. This December word search includes Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa, caroling, eggnog and National Cookie Day on December 4, plus poinsettias, which have their own day on December 12. The winter solstice brings the shortest day of the year. The birthstones are turquoise, tanzanite and zircon, and the birth flowers are the narcissus and the holly.

The large print edition uses an 11×11 grid that fills a letter-size page, and words only run across, down or diagonally down.

All 20 words in this theme: Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Cookies, Gifts, Candles, Lights, Caroling, Snowfall, Sledding, Skating, Family, Eggnog, Poinsettia, Solstice, Holly, Pinecone, Celebrate, Turquoise, Narcissus.

Talk about it

Questions to share while solving, for activity groups, memory care or a visit with family:

  • Which holiday tradition from your childhood do you still keep?
  • What cookies did your family bake every December?
  • Did you go caroling? Which song was your favorite?
  • Do you remember a winter when it snowed a lot?
  • What was the most special gift you ever gave someone?

Activity tip: National Cookie Day is December 4. Bring a plate of cookies to share, play holiday music softly while people solve, and let early finishers help a neighbor with hints.

Questions

How big are the letters?

The grid fills most of a letter-size page, with letters about one and a half times the size of a regular (Medium) word search, and the word list is printed in large type too.

Are these suitable for memory care or activity groups?

Yes. Words only run left to right, top to bottom or diagonally down, so the puzzles are relaxing rather than tricky. Print as many copies as your group needs.

Is there a harder version?

Every theme also has a regular print edition with Easy, Medium and Hard levels.
