Print a word scramble
Word scrambles for adults
Print the “no word bank” version: the same twenty scrambles with nothing to lean on. Long words such as WHEELBARROW, VOLLEYBALL or SEPTEMBER take real thought, and timing yourself turns the sheet into a quick morning puzzle. On screen, leave “Show word bank” unticked.
For teachers
Unscrambling is spelling practice in disguise: children have to picture the whole word and write every letter in the right order. The themes use familiar vocabulary, so the sheets work as early-finisher work, a sub-plan page or a warm-up. The word bank version suits most readers from about second grade.
For seniors and activity groups
The large print sheets have twelve words in big, widely spaced letters and a large word bank. In a group, read the letters aloud or write one scramble on a whiteboard and let everyone call out guesses. Pick a theme that starts a conversation: garden and food words often bring back favorite recipes and flower beds. For more, see our printable puzzles for seniors.
Questions
Are these word scrambles free to print?
Yes. All of them, with their answer keys, are free for home, classroom and group use. No sign-up.
Where are the answers?
On the second page of every PDF. On screen, tick “Show answers” to see them next to each word.
Can a scrambled word have two answers?
No. We only use words whose letters do not spell another common word, so there is one right answer even without the word bank.
Do I get the same puzzle each time?
The printable PDFs never change. On screen, “New scramble” mixes the letters again, so you can play the same theme more than once.
