About this puzzle
A cheerful North Pole puzzle with Santa and Mrs. Claus at the center, a busy workshop full of toys, a mailbag stuffed with letters and the famous nice list. Ribbon, bows and a sack of gifts make it an easy match for a gift-wrapping afternoon or a holiday party where a volunteer plays Santa. The eight reindeer sit this one out; all of them are hidden in the Hard level of the regular print version.
This edition hides the first 12 of the theme’s 20 words in an 11×11 grid, never backwards. How our large print puzzles work.
All 20 words in this theme: Santa, Mrs Claus, Workshop, Toys, Nice List, Naughty, Letters, Mailbag, Ribbon, Bows, Sack, Milk, Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen.
Did you know?
- The eight reindeer were first named in the 1823 poem “A Visit from St. Nicholas,” known as “’Twas the Night Before Christmas.”
- In the poem two of them were called “Dunder and Blixem”; later printings changed them to Donder and Blitzen.
- Thomas Nast’s drawings of the 1860s gave Santa his workshop at the North Pole.
Talk about it
- Did you write a letter to Santa as a child? What did you ask for?
- What was the best toy you ever found under the tree?
- Did your family leave out milk and cookies on Christmas Eve?
- Can you name all eight reindeer without looking?
- Who played Santa in your family or town?
Activity tip: After the puzzle, hand out paper and invite everyone to write a short letter to Santa, the way they might have as children. Reading a few aloud, with the writer’s permission, usually brings smiles.
