How to play winter bingo

  1. Print one card per player. Every card in the set is different.
  2. Call the words in random order, such as “Mittens” or “Hot Cocoa”. The caller screen on this page shows each word in big letters and remembers what was called; the PDF also has a caller’s list to cut up.
  3. Players cover each word on their card. The center square is free.
  4. Five in a row across, down or diagonally wins. Check the card against the called words.

About these cards

Snow days, mittens and a mug of cocoa. A winter bingo with no holiday words, so it fits any classroom or senior center from December to March.

The PDF has 30 different cards, two per page, plus a caller’s list; the large print PDF has one big card per page. Cards are free for home, classroom and group use.

Ideas for your winter bingo game

Because it has no holiday words, winter bingo can be used any time from December to March: snow days, indoor recess, or a January afternoon at a senior center when no one wants to go outside.

Pair it with a warm drink: serve hot cocoa with mini marshmallows and use extra marshmallows as markers. For a classroom, add a short writing prompt after the game: pick three words from your card and write a winter story.

Questions

What prizes work for winter bingo?

Hand warmers, fuzzy socks, a packet of hot cocoa or a homework pass are all cheap, seasonal prizes that kids and seniors appreciate.

Why no Christmas words?

So the game fits all of winter and every classroom, including after the holidays. For holiday words, see the Christmas or winter holiday bingo.

Can I play it with one player?

Yes. Use the caller screen and mark your card as words appear; it is a calm solo activity for kids and older adults alike.

Are all the cards different?

Yes. Each card uses a different mix of words in a different order, so no two cards match.
