The patterns
- Stained glass: irregular panes like a church window. Color neighbors in different colors for a jewel-like effect.
- Flower of life: overlapping circles that form six-petal flowers, a pattern found in old buildings around the world.
- Eight-pointed stars: the star-and-cross layout of traditional tile work from North Africa, Spain and the Middle East.
- Hexagon rosettes: a honeycomb with a flower, star or smaller hexagon in every cell.
- Tumbling blocks: the classic quilt pattern. Color every top face light, every left face medium and every right face dark, and the cubes jump off the page.
- Quatrefoils: four-lobed shapes from Gothic windows and garden trellises.
- Fish scales: overlapping arches, also known from Japanese wave designs.
- Kaleidoscope triangles: triangles split into three around a small center, which turn into stars and hexagons as you color.
Ideas for coloring geometric pages
Repeating patterns reward a plan. Try coloring only one kind of shape first and watch a hidden pattern appear, or let the colors change slowly from one corner of the page to the other, from yellow through orange to red. Two or three colors in a strict repeat look modern; a different color in every space looks like a mosaic. On the easy pages, the shapes are large enough for markers and for anyone who prefers bigger spaces.
Coloring online
Press Color online under any design. Pick a color, then tap a space to fill it; tap again with another color to change it. Undo takes back the last fill, and the white swatch works as an eraser. When you are happy, Save picture keeps your colored page as an image on your device, and Print prints it in color. A tablet is the most comfortable size, and because a single tap fills a whole space, online coloring also suits anyone whose hands are not as steady as they were.
